A graduate of Agnes Irwin School in Rosemont, PA, Ann Klotz was graduated from Yale College, where she earned my B.A. in English (cum laude). Her M.A. is in the individual study of drama from the Gallatin Division of New York University. Ann has worked in girls’ schools as a teacher and administrator for more than thirty years and is devoted to the social and emotional development of girls.

Ann began her tenure as Laurel’s tenth Head of School in 2004. At Laurel, she typically teaches English in the Upper School and drama in the Primary. Particularly interested in the public purpose of private school, she is proud that both the NorthStar Collaborative and Laurel’s Center for Research on Girls, founded during her headship, use the School’s resources on behalf of girls at Laurel and beyond.

Serving on the boards of The Heads’ Network and The 1911 Group, formerly known as the Headmistresses of the East, Ann is deeply committed to mentoring women to independent school leadership as she serves on the faculty for the Heads’ Network Leadership Seminar.  In addition, Ann serves on the board of One Schoolhouse.

Having recently completed an M.F.A. in Creative Nonfiction at Bay Path University, Ms. Klotz is a writer, whose work often centers on the intersection of motherhood and school leadership. She is a founder and editor of Well-Schooled: the Site for Educator Story Telling. Her essays have appeared in Independent School Magazine, Community Works Institute Journal, and the NAIS Independent Ideas Blog, the Huffington Post, the Brevity Blog and in numerous literary journals.
