Pedego Electric Bike Tour of Hilton Head with Stop at Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park
There is no better way to discover Hilton Head than on a comfortable seat of a Pedego electric bike. Pedego electric bikes allow riders to travel farther, faster, and breeze through the bikes trails. Enjoy a relaxing tour along the pathways of Hilton Head. The excursion will weave along paved paths and preserve trails. At stops along the way, your professional guide will discuss the area's rich nature, history and culture, most notably Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park, the site of the first self-governed town of formerly enslaved people in the United States. What began as a military mission grew into a vibrant community, both defined and accentuated by the customs and cultures of native islanders, the Gullahs, and those brought to America from a multitude of countries and islands. At its height, Mitchelville boasted 1,500 to 3,000 residents and demonstrated freedom and opportunity for African Americans diverse in backgrounds and origins.

While at the Park, participants will have an opportunity to meet with Ahmad Ward, the Executive Director for the Mitchelville Preservation Project on Hilton Head Island. The mission of the Mitchelville Preservation Project is to preserve, promote and honor Historic Mitchelville. Ward is responsible for developing and implementing a master plan that will recreate this historic town as an interpretative site.
