PRE-CONFERENCE SESSIONS

The Head's Circle: Collaborative Problem-Solving and Insight Sharing

Sunday, January 26
2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Meet with experienced Heads of School, all from the THN Board of Trustees, to hear about their experiences and learning related to a number of topics which are frequently on the minds–and agendas–of Heads of School. Participants will have the opportunity to hear about and discuss these topics, and do some problem-solving and/or trouble-shooting related to their own school. We will use a round robin format so participants will also be able to choose two areas of interest for the session.

Among the topics which could be addressed are:

  • Not Today:  Engaging effectively with parents who push the limits.

  • Generation Next:  Building a culture to attract and retain teachers from any generation.

  • I Got This:  Building trust, setting boundaries, and leveraging autonomy with your board.

  • You Are Safe Here:  How to create a culture of safety while not promoting a culture of fear.

  • Family First: Supporting  leaders as parents and caregivers.

  • Lifecycle of the Headship:  When “What’s Next?” can mean many different things.

Thriving or Surviving: Building an Entrepreneurial Mindset for School Success

Sunday, January 26
2:00 to 3:00 p.m.

The increasingly competitive landscape for private-independent schools is widening the gap between schools that are thriving and those that are just surviving. At this challenging moment, leaders of schools must adopt a forward thinking approach and engage in serious strategic conversations that chart a path forward to secure their school’s legacy. This includes boldly examining bold collaborative options such as joint ventures, partnerships and mergers.

In this session, you will learn:

  • What are the characteristics of “Thriving” and “Just Surviving” schools

  • What is an Entrepreneurial Disposition and Opportunity Mindset

  • Initial considerations for vision planning and launching a process for (Growth-Sustainability-Survival)

  • How to structure and formalize your path forward & examples of schools taking strategic action

Presenters: Chris Massaro, Managing Partner, The Source Advisory, and Kate Auger-Campbell, Executive Director of Sales and Marketing, ISM®
